Discourses Addressed to Mixed Congregations

Newman commented that his Discourses would be more rhetorical than his former sermons. In fact there is a natural sequence which leads from Sermons Notes to his Sermons Preached on Various Occasions. The Very nature of Roman Catholicism imposes on the preacher a desire to be more dogmatic, because doctrine is of the essence of Catholic Faith. The Anglican sermons were discourse that Newman, as a preacher, had with his congregation, which we are told he preached in a soft conversational manner.
