Novo Millennio Ineunte

Pope Saint John Paul II’s first letter of the new millennium points out the way for the Church of the twenty-first century. The Holy Father takes stock of the legacy of the year 2000, and looks ahead to a renewed evangelisation which “starts afresh from Christ”, encouraging the faithful to take seriously the “universal call to holiness.”

The pastoral priorities for the beginning of the third millennium and clearly set out: Prayer, the Sunday Eucharist, a return to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the primacy of grace over our own efforts and an appeal to listen to and proclaim the word. Pope Saint John Paul II reminds us of Christ’s call: “Duc in Altum!” – Put out into the deep!
